Sorry for the delay in reply, this is the first moment I’ve had free to read and respond properly.
Firstly, I totally agree we should post all this on our shift manifesto site (I just have to remember how!)
2. I think the idea of us each deciding on our own story line and writing that to completion is brilliant… and we don’t have to tell the others, and no worrying about whether it’s contradictory or not. We can still do the ‘reading of the other’s work as we go along and tying in details’ part even if we’re all working with our own completed narrative. The point, for me, has always been the idea of multiple voices within one body, so to my mind that forgives, even gives rise to, multiple narratives.
3. I would love to see y’all and look over what we’ve got, and anyway just see you because I miss you! But I’m very, very loathe to get mired down in a big workshop/rehaul of the piece at this point. I know we need to get restarted but I truly believe re-working it now, or showing it to others and trying to deal with feedback now, could be disastrous. If, for our individual writing, we as individual’s feel the need to re-read what we’ve already written, then of course we should, and I think talking about where we are and where we are headed is great, but I don’t actually see a MASSIVE rehaul at the end, more of a finessing, and I think if we start trying to operate on the body before it is finished we could kill it (to use a rather obvious metaphor.
I’m off for a couple weeks at Christmas, and am up north for a few days but apart from that am around.
